Unfortunately, we soon discovered that our reliance on AI to find them was misplaced.

Yep, it was making things up.

That’s when Mona Mona at Work Matters got in touch and offered to help. She’s a brilliant coder who rebuilt the whole system using a reliable programming language called Python—and it’s beautiful. (Thank you, Mona!)

At New Whole Earth, we talk a lot about systems change. But systems can feel distant, theoretical, even overwhelming. That’s why tools that make the transition tangible matter so much. The new Wellbeing Economy Directory Map is an interactive, living map of organizations building a different kind of economy.

The idea behind a wellbeing economy is simple but radical: instead of measuring success purely by growth or GDP, it prioritizes health, equity, community resilience, and ecological stability.

That shift isn’t hypothetical. It’s already underway.

What the Wellbeing Directory Map reveals—beautifully—is that thousands of organizations, cooperatives, initiatives, and networks are actively building this future right now.

When you explore the map, you start to see patterns: regenerative agriculture projects, community wealth-building efforts, circular economy startups, local currencies, mutual aid networks, and more. Each point represents a node in a growing ecosystem of people rethinking how we produce, share, and care.

And perhaps most importantly: many of them are closer than you think.

This matters because one of the biggest barriers to change isn’t a lack of ideas—it’s a lack of visibility. When alternatives remain scattered and disconnected, it’s easy to assume the dominant system is the only viable one. But when you can see the alternatives—mapped, named, and connected—it changes your sense of what’s possible.

The Wellbeing Economy Directory does exactly that. It turns a movement into a landscape.

It also invites participation. The map isn’t static; it’s a living resource that grows as more people contribute. That makes it more than a directory—it’s infrastructure for a different kind of coordination, a way to find collaborators, learn from parallel efforts, and situate your work within a broader transition.

For communities like ours at New Whole Earth, this kind of tool is invaluable. It helps us move from inspiration to integration—connecting local efforts to a global shift toward economies that are regenerative, distributive, and rooted in real human needs. We’ll be adding many of the organizations we find on the map to our new Reference Library.

Because ultimately, a wellbeing economy isn’t something that will be delivered top-down. It’s something we build together—place by place, relationship by relationship.
